I started this project hoping I would come out with a clear idea on how to effectively manage a classroom. The topic is vast and I was overwhelmed by the amount of teachers who offer their advice and experience. I still do not have a firm grasp on how to maintain complete order in my classroom. However I understand now, from my research and my experiences thus far, that maintaining complete order is nearly impossible. Complete order is also not something I now strive to either. The tips and strategies that are given by writers and bloggers are all sound pieces of advice. Although there is no secret formula to a perfect classroom (whatever that may look like), there are ways in which to work towards creating a great classroom environment. Management of a classroom looks different from one teacher to the next. While one teacher suggests that creating classroom rules with the class increases ownership, another teacher suggests that it weakens a teacher's authority (Linsin, 2014). Questions that arose during my research are how classroom management differs from primary to intermediate grades? As a teacher how do I motivate students who simply refuse to partake in learning? In what ways can I create a structure for students of all learning capabilities? Going forward, I have a new perspective on creating a successful classroom. I have filled my toolbox with ideas and tips, but each classroom is different. I will continue to develop myself professionally and learn by doing.
Hopefully my students will be this excited about learning!
